Excusez-moi, Madame, J’adore Votre Designer Watch by ajaxblogger

I met this incredible old woman on a train ride from New York to Chicago. The fact that I was traveling by rail in America was something unusual in itself, but I was born in France, my mother is French, and I wanted to see my new country the way I remembered loving the landscapes of Europe.

So this woman, first I noticed her hair, which was the most fantastic shade of silver. Then I noticed her designer watch, which matched her hair exactly. She was sitting in the dining car, and you could tell she wished she had a cigarette, or maybe that was just me, wishing I  had a cigarette, and in any case, there was no smoking in the car, but I was drawn to speak with her.

For some reason, maybe it was because I knew at once her designer watch was made my Chanel, my mother’s favorite designer (I was almost named Coco), I spoke to her in French. Just, “Bonjour, madame, je suis desolee a vous deranger, mais j’adore votre montre.

She lifted her wrist, smiled faintly at her designer watch, and then warmly, looking directly into my eyes, she said, “Merci, mademoiselle.”

We talked for hours, in French and in English at turns, and I envisioned our becoming very good friends, perhaps I would inherit the Chanel watch someday…but it wasn’t to be. She got off the train in Pittsburgh, and I never saw her again.

Of course, I’ve been wanting a Chanel designer watch just like hers for my very own, ever since.

What I Need To Clean My Luxury Watch by ajaxblogger

A luxury watch is a hefty investment. For example, the average price range of a Patek Philippe watch is between 11,000 and 20,000 dollars. So when you’re dropping that amount of dough on something, you want to make sure it looks nice, and stays looking nice. And you don’t want to ruin it as your trying to keep it looking nice.

That’s why it’s so important you take special care in selecting the materials for cleaning your designer watch. While the process should only take a few minutes, it’s imperative you have the right materials, or you may just be washing your money away.

Just to set the record straight, this is advice for cleaning the OUTSIDE of the watch, not the inside. In no way shape or form do we encourage you to open up your luxury watch for any reason, and if you truly feel there is a need, we recommend you do so under the supervision of a certified watch maker.

As for cleaning the outside of your watch, it’s recommended you purchase jewelry cleaning fluid. Warm soapy water can do the trick, however, many watches contain metals that don’t react favorably to the chemicals in the soap.

You’ll also benefit from getting a cleaning cloth that is non-abrasive. If you’re having trouble locating a non-abrasive cloth, seek out the nearest jewelry store, as they typically have them for sale. The reasoning behind this is that abrasive cloths tend to scratch the surface of your luxury watch.

If you get the proper cleaning materials, you should have a watch that looks as good as new without putting it at risk of being damaged.

Hublot Big Bang: One Tough Designer Watch by ajaxblogger

Many times we think of rubber watches and luxury watches being from two different worlds, especially if they’re ladies designer watches. We expect ladies designer watches to be dainty with gold or silver bands and the tiny faces etched with sparkling diamonds. But with the Hublot Big Bang 41mm watch, ladies can get a look that is comprised of the traditional female watch luxury features, balanced out with modern materials. The Hublot’s materials such as tungsten, palladium, ceramic, rubber, carbon and titanium are considered unique and cutting edge to use in a luxury watch and they use them well.

The case and bezel are composed of white ceramic, with six titanium screws to secure it. The harsh, rugged titanium screws are great juxtaposed against the sparkling diamonds that are offset on the bezel. The lovely dial is white matte with white ceramic insets and titanium numerals and hand. All in all this is a gorgeous watch for someone who wants a balance of refinement and ruggedness and it’s available at TimeImports.com in a variety of colors. Don’t worry gentleman, there is a men’s version of the Big Bang that’s just as nice.

Designer Watch Care and Maintenance by ajaxblogger

A designer watch is a huge investment. Here are 3 things you should be concerned with if you really want your investment to last.

Water
Many designer watches have water resistant properties, but it’s the amount of water resistance each watch has that varies from model to model. If you aren’t sure how deep your watch can be in the water, or if it can be around water at all, you should always refer to your watch manual. You should also be aware that salt water is more damaging than still because of the abrasiveness of the salt.

Chemicals
You should avoid contact with highly abrasive chemicals when wearing your luxury watch. Even something as common as hairspray can damage the finish of a fine watch, so use your discretion when utilizing these chemically based products while you’re wearing your watch.

Temperature Extremes
It’s never a good idea to leave your luxury watch in extreme heat or extreme cold for a long period of time. Some watches are designed to withstand extreme temperatures, so just make sure that your watch can handle that.

A Panerai Watch for Life by ajaxblogger

A few years ago my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. It was everywhere, and was worst in his brain, his heart and his lungs. Devastated though he was, he received the best treatment money could buy, undergoing surgeries and chemo to eradicate the disease from his body. He was a real fighter, grampa. And although he lasted more than three years, when they gave him just three months to live, the cancer proved stronger.

Before he died, he gave me one of his watches. It was a luxury watch, a beautiful Panerai watch with a brown wristband, and a weathered gold face. He told me that he would hold on to it, so that it would be safe. But I wanted to wear the watch in good health, and I took it. A few weeks later, grampa died, and quite honestly, I thought that maybe it was my fault, maybe if I had left the watch with him, he would have stayed alive longer. That maybe, when I took the watch, it was like taking his soul, and he left the world without once it was gone.

I don’t feel that way any more of course. But sometimes I think about gramps, and hope that he’s looking down on me wearing his Panerai watch.

When the average person is asked what the best luxury watch brand is, Rolex is typically the first thing out their mouth.

Many are unaware of the equally superior, if not better quality watches on the market today. For whatever reason, the epitome of luxury watches in pop culture has always been the Rolex. It is a great watch brand, but no where near the best. Here are some myths debunked about the Rolex.

Myth 1: Rolex watches are individually hand-made. Actually, most Rolexes are mass-produced by highly effective machines in a factory, using methods developed and patented by Rolex. However, they do have very high-end models that are hand crafted.

Myth 2: Rolex watches are the most accurate in the world. It has been said that a $25 dollar Casio will tell time just as accurately as a Rolex. You are spending money on the extra jewelry features of the watch. So if you’re looking primarily for a designer watch with aesthetic value, a Rolex is sure to please.

Myth 3: A Rolex watch takes a year to make. This has been claimed in their ad campaign, mainly to give you the romantic allusion that your watch has been painstakingly hand-crafted instead of being mass-produced.

Despite these myths, Rolex is a great watch brand and a fantastic purchase if you are looking for designer watches that look phenomenal.
