Nice Designer Watch, Mr. President! by ajaxblogger

Who knows better than our current president just how true it is that time is of the essence? “It’s our time,” he inspired us during his campaign, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.” Now that he’s in office, he’s learning how much the opposition slows down decision making, but he keeps at it.

Who knows? Maybe we would have been waiting even longer if Barack Obama hadn’t always had the sense of urgency that kept a designer watch on his wrist.

It’s not that it was always a high-end designer watch. From the eary/mid-90s, any photograph of Senator Obama shows him sporting a TAG-Heuer. We think that shows he’s a practical, humble, prompt man.

But we can’t say we were disappointed…because we are so horologically inclined…when he switched it up in 2007.

The occasion? The Secret Service presented him with a Secret Service watch. That’s a private label, available only in the Secret Service employee’s store. That a Secret Service employee store exists is a little weird to us, but let’s stay focused on the prize here: Obama’s watches.

Now, to this day, he is mostly seen in one or the other of these two watches. A loyal man, if we’ve ever seen one!

BUT. He has also been spotted in a third watch! On occasion, our president does wear a Highgear Enduro Compass watch. That’s usually during more casual or sporting events, but yessir, there you have it. A designer watch complete with a compass, so he always knows the right way to go.

Garance DorĂ©’s Luxury Watch Advice by ajaxblogger

I’m addicted to Paris-based fashion illustrator Garance DorĂ©’s blog. So I was overjoyed, as if I’d discovered a secret (rather than reading something posted on the internet with many other followers), when I found her list of fashion essentials. Some of the things on the list I had. Man’s white shirt: check. Cozy gray cashmere V-neck sweater: check. Skinny jeans: check. What I did not have was a luxury watch.

Oh, I pined for a luxury watch when I saw her illustration. Maybe a Patek Philippe…maybe a Panerai… But I kept time on my iPhone and, besides, I wore all kinds of other jewelry that such a gorgeous watch would overshadow. My fluorescent green hoop earrings, par example.

Then last week, I checked in, and saw with delight that my favorite Parisienne was writing from my own town, NYC. Perhaps I’d run into her on the street! Perhaps she’d photograph me! I would have to wear all the right things, I decided.

I read her post, and what do you think it was about? Well, you’re here on a watch blog, so there’s a hint for you. As if it were there just for me, a post about wearing a luxury watch with other kinds of jewelry–and even fluorescent nails! Why not read it for yourself here?
